AthenaHealth Telehealth
Start the visit from the AthenaHealth chart. The scribe listens and drafts the note in your own template as you talk. You read it over and place it in the encounter yourself. On AthenaHealth, opening that encounter is still a manual step.
Powering AthenaHealth practices of all sizesHow a visit runs
Video is the easy part. The scribe is there for the documentation that normally spills into the evening.
Open the room
Start a visit from AthenaHealth or use a reusable room link. Patients join from a browser with no download and wait until you admit them.
The scribe drafts the note
The conversation is transcribed into a clinical note in your own template, with separate provider and patient summaries from the same session.
Review and place it
Read and edit the draft, then put it into the AthenaHealth encounter. Creating that encounter automatically is still in development.
What practices say
Documentation that is written by the end of the call
The scribe produces a structured clinical note from the visit rather than a raw transcript, though the transcript stays available. The draft is yours to correct. Nothing is treated as final just because software wrote it.
- Clinical note drafted from the conversation automatically
- Uploadable templates so notes match your existing format
- Full transcript kept alongside the drafted note
- Separate provider-facing and patient-facing summaries

Visits that patients can actually join
Most telehealth no-shows are technical. A link that opens in whatever browser the patient already has removes the support call that starts every appointment.
- No app install, no account, no password for patients
- Reusable room links for recurring appointments
- A waiting room so patients are admitted rather than dropped in
- Works on a phone browser for patients without a computer

Telehealth and AI scribe in AthenaHealth

Questions we get asked first
The things AthenaHealth practices want settled before a demo.
Does the note file into the AthenaHealth encounter by itself?
No. On AthenaHealth, the scribe drafts the note and a provider places it. Creating the encounter from the session is still in development. Automatic encounter creation and note import are live on Practice Fusion only.
Does the scribe see the patient's existing chart?
Not on AthenaHealth. Pulling diagnoses, medications, and allergies into the scribe is available on Practice Fusion, eClinicalWorks, and AdvancedMD. That read is not implemented on AthenaHealth yet.
What do patients need in order to join?
A link and a browser. There is no app to install and no account to create. It works on a phone for patients who do not have a computer.
Can notes follow our existing template?
Yes. Templates can be uploaded, and the draft is produced in that format. You edit it before the note goes anywhere.
Is the conversation recorded?
It is transcribed so the scribe can draft from it, and the transcript remains available next to the note. Consent rules differ by state and remain the practice's responsibility.
